Early voting for primary gets under way

According to Harris County Clerk Stan Stanart, the Republican ballot includes 201 candidates vying for 99 offices at various levels of government; the Democratic Party has 149 candidates vying for 94 positions. Voters will choose nominees for Congress, the Texas Legislature, the Texas Railroad Commission, state and local judicial seats, district attorney, constable positions and sheriff, among others. The Texas Legislature passed a voter ID law last year, requiring registered voters to present photo identification before casting a ballot. Registered voters are eligible to request and receive a ballot by mail if any of the following conditions prevents them from voting in-person during the early voting period or on Election Day:
