Report: Honda N-One brochure scans reveal cute-as-a-bug city car
Filed under: Budget, Japan, Hatchback, Honda, Design/Style
Honda appears to have finally put a version of its crushingly cute N Concept 4 into production. The retro-styled hatchback has shown up in Japanese dealership literature for the first time, according to CarScoop. Behold the N-One, a minicar designed to take on the Fiat 500 at its own game. The street-worthy machine ditches the LED lighting arrays of the original concept in favor of more traditional units, and designers chose to adorn the back hatch with a large chrome accent bar below the rear glass as well. We could do without that change.
Step indoors, and Honda looks to have abandoned the retro styling of the N Concept in favor of a parts-bin raid on the N Box +. The move is fitting considering both kei cars ride on the same platform. Under the hood, buyers can expect to bask in the glow of a 660-cc three-cylinder engine paired with a CVT. Power can be shuttled to either the front wheels or an all-wheel drive system depending on trim. Honda hopes the addition to the company's lineup will help boost minicar sales to 280,000 units per year. Don't expect to see this N360-influenced creation show up on our shores any time soon, however.

Reza Madadi saves drowning child and father
Swedish UFC fighter Reza Madadi is on a huge win streak. His victories include wins over Yoislandy Izquierdo, Rich Clementi, Carlo Prater and death. He saved a drowning toddler and his father in Sweden on Aug. 3.
After kayaking in the Stockholm Archipelago, he was headed to lunch when he saw a 1-year-old fall off of a pier into the water. The child's father jumped in after his son. Instinct kicked in for Madadi, who once trained to be a firefighter, and he jumped in after the father.
"Everyone just panicked but I didn't even think, I just acted on instinct," Madadi said. "I could tell the man was very upset, but at the same time relieved. It's easier said than done to act fast in situations like these. The problem is that many people start to think, but there is no time for thinking."
Madadi brought them to safety. The coolest part of the report is that when people who were watching from the shore asked to take a picture of Madadi with the family, he said no out of respect of the shaken up family.
Fighters have been in the life-saving business before. Nick Ring came to the aid of a couple being mugged in Calgary. Jon Jones did the same the morning he won the UFC light heavyweight belt.

LL Cool J, rapper, actor and Jackson?s MMA student, stops break-in
LL Cool J, the actor and rapper, recently stopped by Jackson's MMA, the gym that trains Jon Jones, Donald Cerrone, Clay Guida and many more UFC stars. According to a tweet from Jackson's MMA, he worked out there before a show in New Mexico. It turns out that workout came in handy when his Los Angeles-area home was broken into.
According to the Los Angeles Times, LL Cool J, whose full name is James Todd Smith, was upstairs when he heard a noise in the kitchen. He fought with the burglar, who suffered a broken jaw in the scuffle. Smith then controlled the burglar until police arrived.
There is no word as to whether Smith's mama told her son to knock the burglar out.

Official: DOT teams up with Fox's Glee against distracted driving [w/videos]
Filed under: Government/Legal, Safety, Videos, Celebrities

In attempt to combat car accidents and fatalities caused by distracted driving, the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Ad Council have teamed up with the hit Fox television show, Glee, to produce a pair of public service announcements aimed at younger drivers. These PSAs were introduced as a part of the "Stop the Texts. Stop the Wrecks." campaign that attempts to raise awareness to the danger of texting and driving.
The PSAs show Quinn Fabray, a character on Glee (played by actress Dianna Agron), driving while attempting to read a text before consequently being involved in a severe accident - the footage is taken from an actual episode of the show. According to NHTSA, about 10 percent of all traffic fatalities in 2010 were caused by distracted driving, pointing out that reading a text can distract a driver for around five seconds.
These PSAs were released on the same day that NHTSA announced a new federal program that would give grant money to states that have bans against distracted driving and/or texting while driving. As a part of the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21), states that have primary laws against distracted driving can be awarded up to $17.5 million. Secondary laws - which require police to pull the vehicle over for another violation to ticket a driver for distracted driving - do not qualify for the grants.
Scroll down to view the two Glee PSAs and NHTSA's press release.

Official: 2013 Ford Explorer Sport officially rated at 365 HP, 16/22 MPG
Filed under: Car Buying, Crossover, Ford

The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport goes on sale this fall, packing a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, premium interior features and sporty (sort of) exterior design elements. And while Ford originally told us that the Sport would produce "at least 350 horsepower," we've now learned that the top-trim Explorer will churn out 365 hp and 360 pound-feet of torque. If that sounds familiar, it's because those are the same totals found in the Taurus SHO sedan, which shares its engine.
365 hp and 360 lb-ft are a welcome improvement over the 290 hp and 255 lb-ft present in the naturally aspirated V6 model. Fuel economy doesn't suffer horribly, either. The Sport is officially rated at 16/22 miles per gallon (city/highway), compared to 17/23 in the regular, all-wheel-drive model. For reference, Ford points out that the Explorer Sport is more efficient than both the V8-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango.
When it hits dealerships, the 2013 Explorer Sport will be priced from $40,720, not including $825 for destination. Scroll down for the official press blast.

Will We Ever Get Serious About Gun Control?
Earlier this morning, a man with a gun opened fire outside the Empire State Building in busy downtown Manhattan. Last night, 19 people were shot across the city of Chicago in seven different incidents. Thirteen of those victims were shot within one 30-minute period. A man walked into the Washington, DC building that houses the Family Research Council last week and shot a security guard. At the beginning of this month, a white supremacist shot and killed six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, wounding four others. And we are barely one month removed from the horrific mass shooting...

Watch ?All Access: Ronda Rousey? here
Check out the second episode of Showtime's "All Access: Ronda Rousey" right here. It's 23 minutes long, but well worth your time. There is some not safe for work language, so turn the volume down.
Things to watch out for:
1. How both women break into laughter after their face-off, and what they discuss next. I expect fighters to be intense during their weigh-in day faceoffs because it's so close to fight time. Breaking into laughter months in a staredown months before the fight is what I expect.
2. "It's brutal. She's an Olympian." Rousey has no problem throwing around Nick Diaz.
3. "I get to hit stuff and make noise."
4. Rousey's face when she sees her ESPN the Magazine cover, and the discussion with her mother. On the downside, she sees a video of her online exposed much more than she had agreed to.
5. Sarah Kaufman's friend doesn't know when she's fighting. Also, Victoria, BC, being insanely beautiful.
[Related: Kevin Iole: Sarah Kaufman lacks Ronda Rousey's glamour, but that won't matter]
6. Greg Jackson being as Greg Jackson as possible, yelling, "You're doing extremely well!" All coaches should rock grammar like Jackson.
7. Why you shouldn't ask Kaufman or her coach if she's working on armbar defense.
8. The narrator's voice. Without looking, who can identify that voice?
9. "Women being put in their place is part of what's wrong this world." Well said.
